Bedard hurt (Again)
Written by Joe Veno on August 15, 2009 – 2:12 AM -Have you seen Erik Bedard pitch? He is nasty, or was nasty anyway. But once again, the once “lights-out” lefty is hurt. A torn labrum in his shoulder.
But really, did you ever see him pitch? If you blinked you may have missed it. But I have seen that great Bedard, the awesome lefty with an average fastball, velocity wise (But above-average results). And a straight nasty breaking ball, easily one of the best in the game, or was when he actually pitched. Bedard could shut down any lineup in baseball on any given day.
But he is hurt again. The 3.19 FIP from 2007 is long gone. And the Bedard of old probably is to.
That trade looks terrible now…

Bedard’s supposedly nasty as a human being as well, which only makes him look worse as an investment. If he stayed healthy, someone would accept it and move on in a Randy Johnson sort of way, but he’s a jerk who’s always hurt, costing himself a LOT of money.
