yet another boo hoo article trying to disguise itself as something else. i’m not even sure what the point of it was. surely he wasn’t serious about moving another team to new york city as an answer to this “problem” ? he should probably focus on his own team. i wonder what he had to say in 2008 when his 100 million team lost 100 games…
Personally, I don’t give a crap how the MFY spend money because it’s obvious to me that aside from the money thingy, the Steins can’t run a baseball operation, even in their dreams, regardless of 2009.
So, let em spend. Yeah, it will cost teams like the the Sox a Beckett here and a Damon there because players, naturally, want to stretch limits of their compensation (and the MFY are always too willing to oblige), but as long as we can laugh at the lengths they go to to procure a single title a decade, I’m good.
I’ve been saying for years that if Baseball decides to expand or re-align, putting a team in New York makes sense. That said, I’m with Mike. I don’t think Cameron has much of a point, it’s not a very coherent one at any rate.
and DW–those bitter comments aren’t adding anything useful to the conversation. But before i say good night- 2009 was the extra year that Theo decided Johnny Damon wasn’t worth. As it turned out he had a tremendous year posting an .854 OPS. Damon only wanted four years to stay with your team and in his infinite wisdom Theo chose not to keep his player. It has worked out well for The Yankees.
I’m not here to get into pissing contests with anyone as Joe can tell you. In fact i congratulated him without the slightest trace of irony in 2007. I just like to discuss baseball with like minded fans.
Those 4 years did work out pretty well, but it’s not as if Damon could ever supplant Manny/Bay or handle CF instead of Ells’, so Theo also made the right choice.
